General questions

InnoEnergy is the innovation engine for sustainable energy across Europe.

InnoEnergy was established as a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC) by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) in 2010, with the goal of creating a more sustainable energy sector for Europe and beyond.

With a network of more than 500 partners across Europe, InnoEnergy Masters+ is a key part of our strategy and helps us build an informed, engaged, and ambitious workforce to achieve a sustainable European energy industry.

InnoEnergy is partly funded by the EU through the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), and from the contributions of our shareholders. As a commercial company, it is also financed by returns from the innovative products it sells, and the products and companies it invests in.

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is a body of the European Union, which was established in March 2008.

Its mission is to increase European sustainable growth and competitiveness by developing a new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs to reinforce the EU’s capacity for innovation.

The EIT label means that the programme meets the high standards set by the EIT for education, entrepreneurship and innovation. All of the EIT InnoEnergy Master’s programmes carry the EIT label. You can find more information about the EIT Label here.

  • Master’s in Advanced Energy Systems and AI
  • Master’s in Nuclear Energy

As a student of the InnoEnergy Masters+ you will spend your first year at one European university and your second year at another. The universities you attend will depend on the programme you choose to study and, for some programmes, on the specialist courses you choose to take. All universities and institutions involved in the InnoEnergy Masters+ are accredited by their respective governments, and are internationally recognised. They are:

You may also have the opportunity to take courses at:

  • ESADE Business School, Barcelona, Spain
  • UTUM: UnternehmerTUM, Munich, Germany
The subject matter is different for each Master’s programme. However, all courses have a strong entrepreneurial or business-focused element in addition to in-depth technical content. Each programme also places a strong emphasis on project-based work and hands-on experience gained outside the lecture hall or lab. An overview of the two-year programme, plus details of individual courses and the syllabus are available from each programme’s section of our website.

You will need to preselect your second-year university before starting your first year of  the InnoEnergy Masters+ programme, except for the Master’s in Renewable Energy and the Master’s in Nuclear Energy. For these programmes, you will select your second year university during your first year of studies.

Your preferences, the transcript of your previous studies, and the number of available places are all taken into account when allocating second-year places. The decision is taken by representatives from all the universities taking part in the programme. Whenever possible your preferences will be honoured.

You normally undertake your thesis in the final semester of the two-year programme. The thesis is worth 30 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits, or 45 credits at TU/e – the Technical University of Eindhoven, and will typically be undertaken at one of our industry partners or research centres. The subject of your thesis will be agreed with your course supervisors, and will relate to the subject of the programme with an emphasis on innovation and business management.
