If you are in your final year of undergraduate education, you can also apply and receive a conditional offer for any of our programmes and institutions. Higher National Diploma is not sufficient qualification for admission to our programmes.
Please note that applicants who submit unauthentic, falsified, or manipulated documents will be automatically disqualified from admission.

Previous studies
A completed Bachelor’s degree
You must have completed a Bachelor’s degree worth a minimum of 180 ECTS credits OR an equivalent academic qualification from an internationally recognised university.
- The content of your Bachelor’s degree is more important than the name of your degree, and should be directly relevant to the Master’s programme(s) you are applying for. Please check the specific requirements given for each programme below.
- If you do not have a relevant Bachelor’s degree, but you have studied longer technical programmes and have completed courses with an equivalent of 180 ECTS credits, you may submit an application to be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- In order to present your transcript of records, please make sure to order them it advance.
A Higher National Diploma is not a sufficient qualification for admission to our programmes. Please ensure you apply with a Bachelor’s degree as well.
Conditional Acceptance
If you are in your final year of undergraduate education and expect to graduate before our programme’s start date, you may apply for an InnoEnergy Masters+ programme. If accepted, you will receive a conditional offer, pending confirmation of successful completion of your Bachelor’s degree. This will be coordinated between you, InnoEnergy Masters+ Admission Office, and your Year 1 University.

Please keep in mind that admission is dependent on multiple factors, including the courses that you have taken during your previous studies. Therefore, this overview does not guarantee admission. To be accepted, you need to meet all general and programme-specific requirements.

Programme specific requirements
- A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related field; for example, physical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, or any energy-related engineering subject. Applicants must have achieved an average grade of at least 75%.
- At least 60 ECTS credits or equivalent from your Bachelor’s degree must be in the area of electrical engineering.
- At least 30 ECTS credits or equivalent from your Bachelor’s degree must be in mathematics and include the following subjects: calculus, numerical methods, algebra, probability theory, and basic control theory.
- You will also need to submit a separate letter motivating your reasons for application.
- If you want to study Year 2 at TU/e Eindhoven, you will need to meet higher English requirements. More information under English requirements on this page.
- A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in one of the following subjects: physics, chemistry, engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or electrical engineering.
- Applicants must have achieved an average grade of at least 70%. This is crucial to be eligible for the Master’s in Sustainable Energy Systems.
- You will also need to submit an elevator pitch video of yourself in place of a letter of motivation. Please submit a link to an elevator pitch video (max. 2 minutes) giving the reasons of why you want to be part of the programme, what your contribution to the programme will be, and why you think we should admit you. You must submit this video in the ‘Media files’ tab of the application.
- If you want to study at TU/e Eindhoven, you will need to meet higher English requirements. More info in the English requirements section on this page.
- A completed Bachelor’s degree* worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in: engineering (in topics like mechanics, chemistry, electricity, electronics, or energy); or in engineering physics, which refers to the study of the combined disciplines of physics and mathematics, together with studies in engineering disciplines.
- Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree in electricity and/or electronics must also demonstrate a good foundation in material and thermal sciences (the combined study of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics). Applicants who lack this background cannot be accepted to pursue Year 1 at KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
- Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or mechanical engineering must also demonstrate a good foundation in electrical circuits, electrotechnics, and electronic fundamentals. Applicants who lack this background cannot be accepted to pursue Year 1 at UPC Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
- Applicants lacking these backgrounds are advised to apply to Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) as a Year 1 Universities, where they can follow harmonisation courses to fill the gaps in those knowledge areas. They can also be admitted to other Year 1 locations on a case-by-case evaluation.
- Applicants with other Bachelor’s degrees that cover the fundamentals of mathematics, physics, chemistry, material sciences, thermal sciences, and electrical engineering will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the programme’s Steering Committee. Once accepted into the programme, a complete study track is guaranteed. However, specific profiles can be evaluated again, case-by-case, for their Year 2 University**.
- In all cases, knowledge of the principles of economic sciences (macro and microeconomics) and in engineering projects is appreciated.
*Students who have not completed their bachelor’s degree while applying in Rounds 1 & 2 are not eligible to pursue their year 1 at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Only candidates who have already completed their studies and/or graduated will be evaluated by KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Rounds 1 &2. Candidates who are still pursuing their Bachelor’s degree while applying in Rounds 1 and 2 are advised to apply for another year 1 institution (UPC, L’X, IST) or to apply for KTH as Year 1 institution in Application Round 3.
**Particularly, applicants with a bachelor’s degree in civil or naval engineering can be considered if they demonstrate enough background in such topics. However, these backgrounds will not be eligible by KTH Royal Institute of Technology for any of the two years in the Master’s Renewable Energy programme.

- A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in engineering – for example mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering – or science.
- The courses covered in your Bachelor’s degree must have covered the fundamentals of electrical and mechanical engineering:

- Basics of thermodynamics and heat transfer.
- Basics of electrical energy systems and electrical machines.
- Basics of systems and control.
- A completed Bachelor’s degree worth 180 ECTS credits or equivalent in one of the following subjects: physics, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, energy engineering.
- Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in another subject that covers the fundamentals of mathematics, physics and mechanics, will be considered by the programme directors on a case-by-case basis.
- You will also need to submit a separate letter motivating your reasons for application.
English proficiency
All our programmes are taught entirely in English. Students are expected to have a high level of fluency in the language. Our programmes have specific English proficiency requirements due to their dual-degree nature. Only tests, certifications, and waivers mentioned below are applicable. Applications that do not meet the English proficiency requirements will not be evaluated by the programme’s Steering Committees.

Please note that these requirements might be subject to change based on national or university-specific policies. Applicants will be informed accordingly if any such change occurs.
English proficiency requirements
InnoEnergy Masters+ programmes accept IELTS Academic test as proof of English proficiency.
Required scores
An overall band score of at least 6.5 (with no section lower than 5.5). Students interested in studying at Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e) are required to have no section lower than 6.0. Students interested in studying at École Polytechnique are required to have an overall band score of at least 7.0.
Please upload your official IELTS Test Report Form in our admissions portal during the application process so that our Admissions Office can verify the results.
IELTS General Training test is not accepted as proof of English proficiency.
Please note that IELTS Academic, IELTS One Skill Retake and IELTS Online are different tests. InnoEnergy Masters+ does not accept IELTS One Skill Retake results. IELTS Online is currently not accepted by Grenoble INP nor Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e). Additional restrictions may apply.
If IELTS Online test results are provided, your university preferences may be changed and/or you may be asked to re-take a different test before 15 July 2026.
Is your test result older than two years?
We may accept your application if you took your test on or after 6 June 2023. You will need to meet at least ONE of the following criteria:
- You have completed one semester of studies in English in the past two years (for example, during an exchange). We accept official transcripts or confirmation of your stay at the host university as proof.
- You have worked for at least three months in an entirely English-speaking environment in the past two years (for example, during an internship or employment). We accept an employer’s statement about the duration of your contract and the official language as proof.
- You have taken a B2 or C1-level English exam at your university, language school, or online in the past two years. We accept a course or language certificate as proof.
If your test results are older than two years and you wish to study at Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e), you will need to retake the test.
If your test results were produced before 6 June 2023 and you wish to study at any other institution, you will also need to retake the test.
InnoEnergy Masters+ programmes accept several University of Cambridge certificates as proof of English proficiency.
Required level
- Certificate in Advanced English, CAE (grades A – C)
- Certificate of Proficiency in English, CPE (grades A – C)
- Students interested in studying at Ecole Polytechnique, Certificate of Advanced English, CAE grade C1
Students interested in studying here are required to have a minimum score of 169 in each section.
LinguaSkills test (B2 level) is accepted for students interested in the programme Master’s in Nuclear Energy with Year 1 UPC: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. The test should include reading, writing, listening, and speaking, and a minimum of B2 level is required (scoring between 160 to 179 points).
You will need to share your results with KTH Royal Institute of Technology from Results Verification Service for Cambridge English exams using this link.
Is your certificate older than two years?
We may accept your application if you can show proof that you have maintained your English proficiency since receiving the certification except if you are interested in studying at Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e). If you have a CPE or a CAE certificate and can show proof that you have maintained your English proficiency, we will consider your application on a case-by-case basis. You will need to meet at least one of the following criteria:
- You have completed one semester of English studies in the past two years (for an example during an exchange). We accept official transcripts or confirmation of your stay at the host university as proof.
- You have worked for at least three months in an entirely English environment in the past two years (for example, during an internship or employment). We accept an employer’s statement about the duration of your contract and the official language as proof.
- You have taken a B2 or C1-level English exam at your university, language school or online in the past two years. We accept a course or language certificate as proof.
If your test results are older than two years and you wish to study at Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e), you will need to re-take the test.
InnoEnergy Masters+ programmes accept TOEFL Internet-based (iBT) test as proof of English Proficiency.
Required scores
A total score of at least 92, with a minimum score of 22 from the writing section. Students interested in studying at Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e) are required to have a minimum score of 21 in each section. Students interested in studying at École Polytechnique are required to have a total score of at least 95.
Currently, we are also accepting TOEFL IBT Home Edition for all universities except Eindhoven Technical University (TU/e). InnoEnergy Masters+ does not accept MyBest Scores.
When you receive your official certificate, please upload it to the admissions portal so that our Admissions Office can verify the results.
Is your test older than two years?
Unfortunately, TOEFL results are only valid for two years from the date of the exam, and we cannot accept results that have already expired. You will need to re-take your exam, or take a relevant IELTS, CAE, or CPE qualification.
Your proof of English Proficiency needs to be submitted together with your other application documents before the application deadline of each application round:
- Round 1: 15 September 2025 – 2 November 2025.
- Round 2: 10 November 2025 – 11 January 2026.
- Round 3: 19 January 2026 – 1 March 2026.
- Round 4: 9 March 2026 – 19 April 2026.
- Round 5: 27 April 2026 – 31 May 2026.
If you cannot upload your proof of English proficiency before the deadline of a specific round, you can:
- Change your preference to a programme or home university which allows for an extended deadline or a special waivers – if applicable* (Check extended deadline and waivers per country below for more information).
- Or, clone your application in our application system and submit your application in a subsequent round when you fulfill the English proficiency requirements.
*Our Admissions Office reserves the right to change your home university if you do not fulfill the English requirements for your preferred university but you are eligible for an extended deadline or special waiver by a different institution. This will ensure that your application is still considered by the programme of choice.
Students who have completed a university degree fully instructed in English from a university physically located in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States of America are eligible for a universal English test waiver for all of our Master’s programmes*.
Branches of universities from the aforementioned countries that are geographically located in another country do not qualify for this waiver.
* In line with local university rules, applicants interested in pursuing studies at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) may only qualify for this waiver upon completion of a Bachelor’s degree equivalent to 180 ECTS. This means that if you have studied a Master’s in one of these countries, TU/e requires you to take a test.
Students who have completed a university degree fully instructed in English from a university physically located in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland are eligible for the European English Option waiver for all of our Master’s programmes. This waiver is not valid for studies at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) nor at KU Leuven*.
Please note that you will need to provide proof that your programme was fully instructed in English. If this information is not included in your transcript or diploma supplement, you will need to provide a language of instruction letter officially produced by your university. This proof is required for your application to be evaluated.
* In line with local university rules, applicants interested in pursuing studies at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) or KU Leuven must take an approved English test in order to be eligible for admission.
Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree equivalent to 180 ECTS* fully instructed in English from a university physically located in Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Dominica, Eswatini, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia**, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe are eligible for a proof of English proficiency waiver for all of our Master’s programmes**.
Please note that you will need to provide proof that your programme was fully instructed in English. If this information is not included in your transcript or diploma supplement, you will need to provide a language of instruction letter officially produced by your university. This proof is required for your application to be evaluated.
* If you have only studied a Master’s degree in one of these countries, you do not qualify for this waiver and must take an approved English test in order to be eligible for admission.
** In line with local university rules, applicants interested in pursuing studies at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) or KU Leuven must take an approved English test in order to be eligible for admission. If you apply for TU/e or KU Leuven without a test, the Admissions Office reserves the right to change your Year 1 and Year 2 Universities to other universities.
Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree equivalent to 180 ECTS* fully instructed in English from a university physically located in Cameroon, Fiji, India, Kiribati, Mauritius, Nauru, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Rwanda, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu are eligible for a proof of English proficiency waiver for the Master’s in Renewable Energy, the Master’s in Sustainable Energy Systems and the European Master’s in Nuclear Energy**.
Please note that you will need to provide proof that your programme was fully instructed in English. If this information is not included in your transcript or diploma supplement, you will need to provide a language of instruction letter officially produced by your university. This proof is required for your application to be evaluated.
* If you have only studied a Master’s degree in one of these countries, you do not qualify for this waiver and must take an approved English test in order to be eligible for admission.
** In line with local university rules, applicants interested in pursuing studies at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), KU Leuven, or KTH Royal Institute of Technology must take an approved English test in order to be eligible for admission. If you apply for TU/e, KU Leuven or KTH without a test, the Admissions Office reserves the right to change your Year 1 and Year 2 Universities to other universities.
If you do not meet the requirements for one of the aforementioned English test waivers and have not yet taken an English test, you may be granted conditional admission with Year 1 at Instituto Superior Técnico – University of Lisbon ONLY for the Master’s in Renewable Energy.
If you apply for any of our other programmes without a test and do not meet the requirements for any of the above English test waivers, the Admissions Office will contact you asking you to take a test by a given deadline. If you do not meet this deadline, your application will not continue to the programme-specific evaluation, so it is important that you ensure that you apply with an English test if you do not meet the requirements for a waiver.
If you are granted conditional admission with Year 1 at Instituto Superior Técnico – University of Lisbon, you must provide the results from an approved English test by 15th July 2026. This is necessary so that you meet the English proficiency requirements for a Year 2 University.
*Our Admissions Office reserves the right to change your home university if you do not fulfill the English requirements for your preferred university, but you are eligible for an extended deadline or special waiver by a different institution. This will ensure that your application is still considered by the programme of choice.
The Admissions Office always recommends to apply with an English test if you do not meet the requirements for one of the listed English test waivers. By applying with a test, you can rest assured that if your English test scores meet the English proficiency requirements, you can access all of our partner universities. However, if you studied English in your upper secondary / high school education in the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland, you may be able to gain admission without an English test.
- EU Students who have completed upper secondary / high school with an advanced level of English in their home country and wish to pursue their first year of studies at a university in the same country (i.e. student who completed high school in Sweden and would like to study at KTH, students with a VWO high school diploma from the Netherlands who which to study at Eindhoven University of Technology, etc.) may be eligible for a waiver.
- EU Students who have completed upper secondary / high school with an advanced level of English in their home country and wish to pursue their first year of studies at a university in a third country. An English test waiver will depend on the first and second year universities of choice, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. This is not applicable for Eindhoven Technical University nor KU Leuven.
Some Year 2 Universities may still require you to submit an English test. In such case, proof of English proficiency must be provided before 15th July 2026. This information will be communicated in your acceptance letter.
