Round 1 for Masters+ Intake 2027 opens today, 21 September, across all five programmes. Each one is a two-year, double-degree Master’s taught across at least two European universities, built around a shared structure: a common foundation in Year 1, a specialisation in Year 2, a Business, Innovation & Entrepreneurship track with Esade Business School running alongside the technical curriculum, and a mandatory industry internship. Here’s what’s on offer this year, what’s new, and how to get your questions answered before you apply.
The five programmes
The Master’s in Renewable Energy trains engineers across solar, wind, storage and grid integration rather than a single technology, studying at two of four universities (KTH, UPC, École Polytechnique, or Instituto Superior Técnico). Recent graduates have gone on to ABB, ENGIE, Vestas and TotalEnergies.
The European Master’s in Nuclear Energy covers the full nuclear lifecycle, from reactor design to decommissioning, starting at KTH or UPC before moving to France for one of six Year 2 specialisations. Graduates work at EDF, GE Vernova and Proxima Fusion, among others.
The Master’s in Smart Electrical Networks and Systems focuses on power systems, smart grids and grid operations, with Year 2 options at Grenoble INP, KU Leuven, TU/e or back at your Year 1 university. Vattenfall, Hitachi Energy and ABB are among the employers hiring from it.
The Master’s in Sustainable Energy Systems is the broadest of the five, connecting generation, storage, buildings, transport and policy across two of eight partner universities including KTH and TU/e. Siemens Energy, EDF and Fortum recruit directly from it.
What’s new: the Master’s in Advanced Energy Systems and AI
The newest addition to the portfolio is the Master’s in Advanced Energy Systems and AI, the result of years of work through AI4GreenDeal, an EU-funded project redesigning an existing InnoEnergy Master’s around the AI skills the energy sector says it’s missing. It’s a 120 ECTS double degree across two of four universities (KU Leuven, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, UPC BarcelonaTech, Grenoble INP-UGA), with a joint course every student takes together regardless of pathway, and the same Business, Innovation & Entrepreneurship track as the other four programmes, taught by Esade Business School.
Funding: what a scholarship can actually cover
Four scholarship routes are open for Intake 2027: Energy Impact, which every applicant is automatically considered for, plus Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Entrepreneurship and Digital Champions, which need a motivation video. Both full and partial fee waivers are available. You can only hold one type, and awards don’t carry over between programmes, so check the eligibility criteria before you apply.
